In the fall of 1998 a group of former members of the Ship's Company of HMCS QUADRA got together and discussed the need for an organization to keep past and present members of the QUADRA family in touch. Not only with each other, but with the ship itself. To that end this association was formed. Committees were struck and we got down to work.
The spring of 1999 saw the organization take shape. Bylaws were written, incorporation was applied for, and we started to plan for the coming year at QUADRA. Our first Annual General Meeting was held in the Naden Wardroom at CFB Esquimalt in the summer of 1999. A Board of Directors was elected, priorities for the new organization were set, and a number of new members were welcomed aboard. That summer also saw the first Alumni Day at HMCS QUADRA. The fall of 1999 saw a steady increase in our membership as news of the organization started to spread. The first edition of our newsletter "The Q News" was published and mailed to members.
The spring of 2000 saw our Letters Patent being issued - we were now officially a legal entity! A second newsletter was published and plans were made for the upcoming Annual General Meeting, to be held onboard HMCS QUADRA in conjunction with the Alumni Day. The Alumni Day quickly became an Alumni Weekend, with activities including a VERY successful "Meet and Greet", the presentation of our first Cadet Bursary, a couple of luncheons aboard QUADRA, the chance to join the QUADRA officers at their annual "Newfie Night" mess function and a very successful Alumni Day Ceremonial Divisions where members of the Alumni actually took part in the march past!
